A Season of Thankfulness

I am afraid my original plan of posting every 5 days did not make it very far. But as I am sure we all can attest, life never goes as we plan. I am going to dedicate this post to updating my busy yet wonderful last couple weeks.

My two amazing parents who I am so very blessed with, decided to come up for about 5 days for a few special occasions which for the most part involved family time, wedding planning/shopping, an engagement party, and my brothers 21st birthday! It was a busy 5 days to say the least... To add to the the craziness, we got our first big snow storm while my parents were here! Below are a few pictures I took with my phone (sorry if they are not that clear) of while they were here!

(This was taken standing from my balcony)

 (This was my awesome husbands view from work)

                    I don't really like winter but when it looks like this outside... I don't care who you are. That is gorgeous!

(My wonderful parents)

(My now 21yr old big brother on his birthday and his sweet fiance peaking out behind him)

 (My simple/not very creative table decorations for Thanksgiving.This was taken this morning so the candles have burned out :P)

The evening before Thanksgiving my most wonderful husband surprised me with a date! He took me out to dinner and then a movie! I love surprise date nights! He is the best!
We had a great Thanksgiving with just the two of us. We had our Lord of the Rings marathon just like last year and I made way too much food so we will be having Thanksgiving dinner for many nights to come. lol But it was relaxing and a great way to spend our last Thanksgiving with just the two of us before our little bundle of joy shows his/her face in May!
I am Thankful for many things this year but the one I am thankful for most is the Blessing of this growing life inside of me. I praise God everyday for the opportunity to carry and nurture this miracle and one day meet him/her face to face.
I hope your Thanksgiving was a blessing to you and those around you!

An Ally for Life

    What does it mean to be created with the purpose of being "a helper fit for man"? As we see throughout history this has been a troubling thought for many a woman. Many find this term to be demeaning and thus seek purpose through equality with men in the workplace and in everyday life. To seek equality one must first believe there is lowliness and a lack of importance or power in the word "helper." Let us look at the definition of this troubling word.
     According the the Websters dictionary helper can have 1 or 2 meanings.
1st "A person or thing that helps or gives assistance, support, etc."
2nd "An extra locomotive attached to a train at the front, middle, or rear, especially to provide extra power for climbing a steep grade."
     Now let us look at some synonyms to this word.
"Aid, Assistant; Supporter, Backer, Auxiliary, Ally."
     When I read these definitions I do not understand why we as women seem defaced by this one word. Is it demeaning to be titled as a man's support or the one who gives assistance? Or how about the second definition? In this particular definition a helper is described as an extra locomotive which is attached to a train to provide extra power for climbing steep grades! Can you tell me that this role is lowly, not equally important or lacking in power or influence?! How about the synonyms to this word? Do you see inequality in the word Ally or Backer or even Supporter? Yet we as women see and have been taught that this word "helper" symbolizes weakness. Can we blame the Bible for this teaching? No. Eve was created as a helper for Adam not because she was weak or to be a flower on the shelf but because he needed her to Help-Support-Back-Aid-Assist him in his life work. These words stress action and hard work not futility and unimportance! To be a man's Ally is to go to war when he goes to war! To stand up beside him and "work the ground." For women to come and say that the Bible teaches unequal, weak, powerless roles in women is to spit in your own face. You lack understanding and satisfaction. For as long as you are blinded by your own greed and self gratification you will never be able to see the incredible role you were created to fulfill.You will continue to reach for that which does not exist as you cannot rewrite the DNA of your purpose of life. To reach for an equality higher than what we have already been given is to reach for the power of God. Let us not waste our life searching for something we will never find. Let us stand up as women and claim the purpose of our existence for it is equally a thing of beauty as that of power. I pray that as each day goes by I will forever be proud of being my husbands ally for life.

 I will leave you with this poem from William Ross Wallace.

    The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
    Is The Hand That Rules The World

    Blessings on the hand of women!
    Angels guard its strength and grace,
    In the palace, cottage, hovel,
    Oh, no matter where the place;
    Would that never storms assailed it,
    Rainbows ever gently curled;
    For the hand that rocks the cradle
    Is the hand that rules the world.

    Infancy's the tender fountain,
    Power may with beauty flow,
    Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
    From them souls unresting grow--
    Grow on for the good or evil,
    Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
    For the hand that rocks the cradle
    Is the hand that rules the world.

    Woman, how divine your mission
    Here upon our natal sod!
    Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
    Always to the breath of God!
    All true trophies of the ages
    Are from mother-love impearled;
    For the hand that rocks the cradle
    Is the hand that rules the world.

    Blessings on the hand of women!
    Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
    And the sacred song is mingled
    With the worship in the sky--
    Mingles where no tempest darkens,
    Rainbows evermore are hurled;
    For the hand that rocks the cradle
    Is the hand that rules the world.

Genesis 2 (ESV)
 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground—then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is the Pishon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is the Gihon. It is the one that flowed around the whole land of Cush. And the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

A Season of New

Isn't it exciting when you do something for the first time, or maybe its just the first day of a new month and you feel excited to begin anew with renewed passion for life and excitement for what is to come! Or maybe your the person who finds the beginning to be nothing but uncertainty, as you fall into this trap of fear that is centered around circumstances and the "what if's" of life. What is it about this word beginning that makes us so uncertain, so fearful? Is it because there is so much at stake? Is it because what happens in those first moments will be something we have to live with for the rest of our lives? Isn't this true in everything though? Do we not have to live with our decisions and circumstances no matter if it is the beginning, middle, or the end of a moment, minute, day, month or year? So what is it that makes us so uncertain?

Let us think about some beginnings that make us excited or bring joy. Maybe it is your first car, or the day you got your drivers license and experienced freedom and responsibility, the day you got your 1st pet, when you started college, the day you became a Christian, the day you turned 18, the first day of school, the day you got baptized, the first birthday you can remember, your first date, the first time you rode a bike on your own, or maybe even your first computer. The beginning has such potential for joy but as the quote goes "one mans junk is another mans treasure" so also is "one mans joy is another mans sorrow". Maybe you looked forward to your first day of school every year because you loved your teachers and enjoyed doing school but your best friend dreaded it because she struggled and all the kids picked on her and said she was dumb. Is it your fault you were good in school and your teachers were proud of you? NO. Is it your friends fault that she struggled in school and she got picked on? NO. Just because two people do their best in a subject it doesn't mean they will both receive the same grade. Is this not true in life as well? God is our teacher and life is our subject. We work our hardest and do our best with the life we have been blessed with. No ones life is the same as we are not cookie cutter people. Some may struggle with a certain area of life more than another person. Does that make one better than the other? No. I believe that if we take this mindset with us and live one day at a time doing the best we can, seeking after God instead of living in the fear and uncertainty of what is to come then we can enjoy and be blessed by each new season of our life enjoying from the beginning to the end of each journey we face. Let us reach toward this goal to live life to the fullest!

Colossians 3:23-24
  "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

On November 1st we got our first snow up her in Northern Kentucky. It was not much but enough to have to break out the scraper! I was glad that it did not stick around very long! I am not a winter person and enjoy my fall days for as long as I can have them! Here are a few pictures from that cold snowy morning!

                  (My crazy husband hard at work)

      As I am sure many are aware that yesterday was Election Day and many of us made our way to vote and have our voice heard! Well I am happy to announce that after so many years of having to watch everyone else have so much fun ;) I finally got to vote for the first time not only in my life but also as a Kentucky resident! For those of you who have been doing this for many years I hope you are still able to enjoy the privilege and opportunity to have your voice heard as so many do not! I pray we never take advantage of this great privilege! Here is a picture of Mateo and I after voting!

Until next time,

Alright! Well, this is the beginning of what I hope to be a blog that will be regularly updated with the exciting, quirky, fun, and to be honest just downright weird adventures we have as we continue to learn how to roll with the punches of this life we trek together! Mateo (my awesome husband) and I have been married over a year now since our union last year in October! We began our life together in the crazy state of Kentucky which is about 8 hrs away from our wonderful families who we miss but are blessed to be able to see several times a year! It has been quite a journey so far filled with joy, laughter, tears, and lots of growing! My husband is the Course Manager of the zip-line course up here in Northern Kentucky at the Creation Museum. Mostly, I am a stay at home wife and homemaker. I do occasionally work for my husband when needed and this last summer I worked for the Museum. I am now back to being home most of my days and am glad for the change from the summer craziness! We love our life together and I can't wait to see what is in store for us in the next year to come! I am new to this whole blogging thing so we will see how it goes! I will do my best to always leave you with a verse of scripture or a meaningful quote I have read that has impacted me.
